You will require this registration if you operate a vessel that is 24 metres or more in tonnage length and its purpose is to earn income by way of cargo, passengers or other services.
Please note that:
- all vessels undertaking overseas voyages must be registered
- provisional registration is also available
- if your ship is a commercial vessel over 24 metres in tonnage length then you must fly the Australian Red Ensign
- other registered ships may fly either the Australian National Flag or the Red Ensign.
Registration of a vessel on this general register provides legally and internationally recognisable nationality to your ship, and Australian protection on the high seas and in foreign ports.
