You will need this approval if you intend to provide a child care service to families who intend to claim Child Care Subsidy (CCS). CCS is a payment made to families to assist with the costs of child care. Families are able to receive CCS where the care has been provided by a Commonwealth approved child care service. Classes of child care service that are eligible for this benefit include:
- centre-based day care
- in-home care
- outside school hours care
- family day care.
If you are granted approval for a family day care service you must provide the Agency with attendance reports that detail which educator provided care for the session. These reports are submitted using the Child Care Subsidy System and must contain the service provider personnel ID of the relevant educator.
If you operate an approved family day care service you must not provide care in a State or Territory other than those you are approved for unless an exemption has been granted by the Agency. Additionally, you, or your employees, are unable to provide care for your own child and claim CCS for that session.
More information about becoming an approved child care provider to administer CCS is available on the Australian Government Department of Education website.
