Australian Government Building and Construction Workplace Health and Safety Accreditation Scheme - Australian Government

Description

You will require this accreditation if you intend to tender for contracts that are funded directly or indirectly by Australian Government agencies.

All head contractors must hold accreditation to enter into Australian Government directly and indirectly funded building and construction contracts valued at $4 million or more (for direct funding) or $6 million (for indirect funding) or more. Accreditation includes listing on the Federal Safety Commissioner (FSC) register.

Building work includes work on:

  • buildings, structures or works that form part of land
  • railways and docks
  • fit-outs
  • preparatory / finishing operations
  • multi-dwelling residential developments.

Building work does not include work focused on obtaining oil, natural gas or minerals, or domestic housing work.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this accreditation you must:

  • demonstrate ability to manage construction hazards and high risk activities
  • pave a good record in relation to workplace safety
  • provide on-site audit results
  • demonstrate senior management commitment to Workplace Health and Safety (WHS)
  • demonstrate integration of safe design principles into the risk management process
  • show whole of project WHS consultation and communication
  • demonstrate effective subcontractor WHS management arrangements across building and construction projects
  • show whole of project performance measurement
  • have completed relevant WHS training and competency on dealing with safety risks.

Duration

Up to 3 years. Companies seeking re-accreditation can then be granted an accreditation period of up to 6 years.
