You will need this licence if you intend to operate one or more financial markets in Australia. A financial market is a facility which involves:
- offers to acquire or dispose of financial products
- buyers and sellers participating in the trade of assets such as equities, bonds, currencies and derivatives.
A facility will not be a financial market if it is only a step in a process that results in the eventual making or acceptance of offers or invitations.
One Australian market licence may authorise the licensee to operate two or more financial markets. A person / company holding a market licence may also provide financial services incidental to the operation of the market.
If you intend to operate a financial market overseas you may also be eligible for this licence.
