You will require this licence if you intend to operate one or more financial markets in Australia.
A financial market is a facility which involves:
- offers to acquire or dispose of financial products
- buyers and sellers participating in the trade of assets such as equities, bonds, currencies and derivatives.
A facility will not constitute a financial market merely because it is a step in a process that results in the eventual making or acceptance of offers or invitations.
One Australian market licence may authorise the licensee to operate two or more financial markets. A person / company holding a market licence may also provide financial services incidental to the operation of the market.
Applicants intending to operate a financial market overseas may also be eligible for this licence.
Exemptions may apply, please consult the Contact Officer for more information.
