Australian Standard AS 1210-1997: Pressure Vessels - Australian Government

Description

Note that this standard has been updated and you will need to meet the requirements set out in the Australian Standard AS 1210-2010 Pressure Vessels.

You may be required to comply with this code if you intend to apply for a refrigerant air-conditioning (RAC) industry permit.

A RAC industry permit means any of the following:

  • refrigerant handling licence
  • refrigerant trading authorisation
  • RAC equipment manufacturing authorisation
  • halon special permit
  • restricted refrigerant trading authorisation.

To be eligible for a permit you must demonstrate your knowledge of any standard relevant to work to be carried out under your permit. You must carry out any work under a permit in accordance with the relevant standard.

The standard specifies requirements for the materials, design, manufacture, testing, inspection certification and dispatch of pressure vessels for pressures up to 21 MPa and temperatures within the limits for the various materials and components. The specific design requirements are based on a simplified engineering approach and are intended to be the standard methods of design, but provision is also made for other methods to be used provided that the validity of the design is satisfactorily established.
