Note that this standard has been updated and you will need to meet the requirements set out in AS 3864.1-2012.

You may be required to comply with this code if you intend to apply for a refrigerant air-conditioning (RAC) industry permit.

A RAC industry permit means any of the following:

  • a refrigerant handling licence
  • refrigerant trading authorisation
  • RAC equipment manufacturing authorisation
  • halon special permit
  • restricted refrigerant trading authorisation.

To be eligible for a permit you must demonstrate your knowledge of any standard relevant to work to be carried out under your permit. You must carry out any work under a permit in accordance with the relevant standard. This Standard specifies requirements for the manufacture of medical refrigeration equipment for the storage of blood and blood products within an ambient temperature range of 10 degrees Celsius to 43 degrees Celsius.
