You may be required to comply with this standard if you intend to apply for a refrigerant air-conditioning (RAC) industry permit.
A RAC industry permit means any of the following:
- A refrigerant handling licence;
- Refrigerant trading authorisation;
- RAC equipment manufacturing authorisation;
- Halon special permit; or
- Restricted refrigerant trading authorisation.
To be eligible for a permit you must demonstrate your knowledge of any standard relevant to work to be carried out under your permit. You must carry out any work under a permit in accordance with the relevant standard.
This standard specifies the minimum equipment requirements for safe and efficient recovery or combined recovery and recycling of refrigerants directly removed from and intended for reuse in automotive air-conditioning systems. It specifies test methods to determine equipment performance and minimum purity levels allowed for recycled R12 and R134a refrigerants. It applies to equipment used to service cars, trucks and other vehicles with similar air-conditioning systems. Equipment used on mobile vehicles that have hermetically sealed systems for refrigerated cargo are not covered in this document.
