Authorisation as a Centralised Test Centre - Australian Government

Description

You will require this authorisation if you intend to operate an establishment that conducts growing trials for new candidate plant varieties.

When a plant breeder applies for plant breeder's rights (PBR), the new candidate variety must be tested through a growing trial. The trial is used to confirm that the variety is clearly distinguishable from varieties that already exist.

A centralised testing centres (CTC) is able to perform:

  • contract testing for third parties
  • their own growing trials if they possess their own candidate variety.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this authorisation you must:

  • have facilities of a high standard and that are appropriate for the genera that is to be tested
  • employ adequately trained staff and have access to accredited qualified persons
  • have substantial industry support
  • have the capacity for the long-term storage of genetic material
  • be prepared to test varieties submitted by third parties.
