Authorisation of Return of Overseas-Launched Space Objects (AROLSO) - Australian Government

Description

You will require this authorisation if you intend to return a specific space object, or series of space objects, that were launched from a specific launch facility outside Australia to an area or place within Australia.

A space object consists of a launch vehicle and a payload that the launch vehicle is to carry into or back from an area beyond the distance of 100 km above mean sea level.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible to receive this authorisation you must:

  • Have the necessary competence to carry out the return;
  • Meet the insurance/financial requirements;
  • Satisfy the Agency that the return has a low as reasonably practicable probability of substantial harm to public health. safety or property;
  • Satisfy the Agency that the space object will not contain a nuclear weapon or weapon of mass destruction of any other kind;
  • Satisfy the Agency that there are no national security, foreign policy or international obligations that cannot be met if registration is authorised; and
  • Demonstrate that all necessary environmental approvals under Australian law and an adequate environmental plan, contained in an approved application form along with all supporting documentation.
