Authorisation to Store Possibly Harmful Genetically Modified Organisms - Australian Government

Description

You will need this authorisation if you intend to store genetically modified organisms (GMOs) that are potentially hazardous.

Due to the risks posed by GMOs, containment facilities must be of high enough biosecurity standard to be between Physical Containment Level 2 and Physical Containment Level 4. The exact level of containment required is determined by:

  • examining the risk group classification of the wild type parent organism (the unmodified organism)
  • identifying the risks posed by the GMO in question.
