Aviation Identification (AVID) - Australian Government


You will require this identification card if you are a pilot requiring access to a secure area of a security controlled airport. This identification shows that you have a current security check and have undergone a background check.

Please note that to work in a secure area at a security controlled airport you must obtain an ASIC (Aviation Security Identification Card), if you have already obtained an ASIC then you do not need to undergo background testing.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

When applying for an AVID you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age;
  • Hold a valid Australian flight crew licence or a certificate of validation;
  • Supply certified copies of identification documents; and
  • Pay the required fee.

The person who certifies your identification documents must either:

  • Be a person who is entitled to witness a Commonwealth of Australia Statutory Declaration; or
  • Be a CASA (Civil Aviation Safety Authority) delegate or employee; or
  • Be a CASA appointed Designated Aviation Medical Examiner or Designated Aviation Ophthalmologist; and
  • Must complete the Declaration on the appropriate section of the form and certify the back of one photo as being a true likeness of the applicant.
