Aviation Security Identification Card - Australian Government


You will require this identification card if you are an aviation worker who requires frequent access to airside or landside secure aviation areas at a security-controlled airport. This is a type of transport security identification card, which shows that you have undergone a security check.

Secure areas include cargo and baggage handling facilities, air traffic control facilities, fuel storage areas and general aviation areas.

Workers requiring this card include those involved in controlling the movement of people, flights, vehicles and goods within airside areas. If you are involved in checking passengers or baggage handling, this card will be required regardless of the place of employment.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

You will be required to pass background checks to determine that you are not a threat to aviation security. The background check consists of:

  • a security assessment by the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO)
  • a criminal history check by the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC)
  • an immigration check (if required) by the Department, to confirm an applicant's right to work in Australia.
