You need an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) if you require frequent, unescorted access to secure areas of an airport to do your job. An ASIC is evidence that you have a valid background check.
The type of ASIC you require will depend on your role and operational need. There are three different types of ASICs, for:
- red: access to airside security zone or secure area of a security controlled airport
- grey: access to a secure area of a security controlled airport. It does not give you access to the airside security zone
- white: a person employed in a security-sensitive role that requires a valid background check.
An ASIC is not an access card. It does not give the holder the right to access secure areas and zones without the permission from the relevant authority or facility owner or operator. Access is controlled by the airport owner or operator.
