You will require this licence if you provide a designated datacasting service which is delivered using the broadcasting services bands. Datacasting is the delivery of speciality television or radio content (i.e. not general appeal content), such as speciality text, data, speech, music or other sounds or visual images and other similar types of services. This includes on screen TV guides and other text based services such as program summaries.
A designated datacasting service is any service that is provided by:
- a commercial television broadcasting licensee
- a commercial radio broadcasting licensee
- a national broadcaster.
A datacasting licensee must have an apparatus licence allocated by the Agency under radiocommunications legislation. Restricted datacasting licences are no longer available.
