Flight Engineer Licence - Australian Government

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to perform the duties of a flight engineer in the aviation industry. Flight engineers assist aircraft pilots and engineering maintenance staff by operating aircraft instruments and systems.

This licence authorises you to undertake the duties of a flight engineer, however, you must also be endorsed for the specific class of aircraft that you will be operating in.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • be at least 18 years of age
  • meet the requirements for the grant of at least one flight engineer type rating
  • have passed the aeronautical knowledge examination for the flight engineer licence
  • have completed flight training for the flight engineer licence
  • passed the relevant flight test
  • have completed at least 100 hours of aeronautical experience performing the duties of a flight engineer under the direct supervision of a flight engineer instructor
  • have completed an approved course of training in multi-crew cooperation.

You are taken to have passed the relevant flight test if you hold:

  • a commercial pilot licence with the aeroplane category rating
  • a pilot type rating for an aeroplane that is certificated for multi-crew operation
  • you have completed at least 50 hours of flight training performing the duties of a flight engineer under the direct supervision of a flight engineer instructor.
