You will be required to comply with this code if you import food and food products into Australia. All foodstuffs imported into Australia must comply with this code and are liable for inspection under the Food Inspection Scheme. Foodstuffs classified as high or medium risk are closely monitored and extensively sampled. You will also require an import permit for high risk foodstuffs such as:
- fresh fruit and vegetables
- food containing nuts
- food containing dairy
- food containing egg
- food containing meat
- animal products.
Imported food must meet the requirements for labelling and content listed within the code and also comply with any other directives.
