High Power Rocket Permit - Australian Government

Description

You will require this permit if you intend to launch a high power rocket from Australia. 

This permit is required for a rocket that will not reach or exceed an altitude of 100km above sea level and is propelled by a motor or motors with a combined total impulse greater than: 

  • 889,600 Newton seconds
  • 40,960 Newton seconds and is fitted with a system or systems that allow active control of its trajectory.

Please note, if you intend your rocket to reach an altitude of 100km or above, you will instead require a Launch permit.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this permit, you must demonstrate:

  • competence to carry out the rocket launch
  • environmental approval and an adequate environmental plan
  • insurance and financial coverage
  • safety of design, construction, and operation (including flight path) aligning with Flight Safety Code
  • no interference with Australia’s security, defence, or international relations
  • whether your object is or contains a nuclear weapon or weapon of mass destruction
  • risk hazard analysis aligning with the Flight Safety Code.
