ISO 7165:2009 Fire Fighting - Portable Fire Extinguishers - Australian Government

Note that this standard has been updated and you will need to meet the requirements set out in ISO 7165:2017 Fire Fighting - Portable Fire Extinguishers - Performance and Construction.

You must comply with this standard if you are the operator of a regulated Australian Vessel, or if you are the operator of a foreign vessel that is:

  • in an Australian port
  • entering or leaving an Australian port
  • in the internal waters of Australia
  • in the territorial sea of Australia, other than in the course of innocent passage.

The standard is applicable to a fully charged extinguisher having a maximum mass of 20 kg. The standard sets out the minimum requirements for the performance and construction of fire extinguishers, and specifies the colour schemes that portable fire extinguishers must match.
