Launch Facility Licence - Australian Government

Description

You will require this licence if you intend to operate a launch facility in Australia.

A launch facility is a fixed or mobile facility or place used for the launch of space objects.

A space object is:

  • an object (or any part of that object) which is to go into or come back from an area beyond the distance of 100 km above mean sea level
  • any part of that object, even if that part is to go only some of the way towards or back from an area beyond the distance of 100 km above mean sea level.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must demonstrate:

  • competence to operate the launch facility
  • environmental approval and an adequate environmental plan
  • sufficient funding for construction and operation? 
  • safety of design, construction, and operation? 
  • no interference with Australia’s security, defence, or international relations.? 

Duration

Up to 20 years subject to an annual review
