Notification of a Low Risk Dealing - Australian Government

Description

This notification is required by organisations that intend to deal with specific types of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Notifiable Low Risk Dealings (NLRDs) have been assessed as having minimal risk to the health and safety of people and the environment and as such, these risks can be managed by a physical containment level 1 or 2 facility.

These dealings must not involve the intentional release of GMOs into the environment.

Eligibility requirements

Notifiable low risk dealings must not be undertaken unless the proposed dealing has been assessed by an Institutional Biosafety Committee to be a dealing of a kind that is mentioned in the Regulations.

Within 14 days of the completion of the assessment, the Committee must notify the Regulator and the Regulator must meet any ongoing specified information and reporting requirements.

Dealings must not be undertaken unless the person, and the project supervisor for the proposed dealing, has received written notice from the Committee.
