Overseas Payload Permit - Australian Government

Description

You will require this permit if you are an Australian national intending to launch a space object from outside Australia.

A space object is:

  • an object (or any part of that object) which is to go into or come back from an area beyond the distance of 100 km above mean sea level
  • any part of that object, even if that part is to go only some of the way towards or back from an area beyond the distance of 100 km above mean sea level.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this permit, you must demonstrate:

  • sufficiently low probability that the launch or launches will cause substantial harm to public health or public safety or damage to property
  • safety of design, construction, and operation
  • no interference with Australia’s security, defence, or international relations
  • whether your object is or contains a nuclear power source, nuclear weapon, or weapon of mass destruction.
