You must comply with these standards if you operate one of the following vessels in Australian waters:
- an oil tanker
- a chemical tanker
- a gas carrier
- a cargo vessel carrying any substance that may give off combustible gases
- a vessel that carries a substance likely to deplete the oxygen concentration in a space
- a vessel where a person may have to enter a confined space.
The standards in regards to the performance of gas detectors are:
- AS/NZS 60079.29.1:2017 Explosive atmospheres - Gas detectors - Performance requirements of detectors for flammable gases
- IEC 60079-29-1 Ed. 2.0. Gas detectors - Performance requirements of detectors for flammable gasses.
The standards in regards to the installation, use and maintenance of gas detectors are:
- AS/NZS60079.29.2:2016 Gas detectors - selection, installation, use and maintenance of detectors for flammable gases and oxygen
- IEC 60079-29-2 Ed 1.0 Gas detectors - selection, installation, use and maintenance of detectors for flammable gases and oxygen.
