Public Weighbridge Licence - Australian Government


You will require this licence if you intend to operate a public weighbridge and conduct public weighings in Australia.

A weighbridge is a measuring instrument of one or more platforms that determines the mass of vehicles or livestock and has a measuring capacity of three tonnes or more.

A public weighbridge licence demonstrates the holder has a suitable weighbridge, as well as the competency to operate the weighbridge.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

A licence may be granted to individuals, partnerships and companies who are able to satisfy the legal requirements for a public weighbridge licensee.

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • complete a recognition kit to gain a Statement of Attainment
  • undergo a criminal history check and submit a National Criminal History Report
  • provide details of all employees that will be operating the weighbridge
  • have the weighbridge inspected to ensure that it is suitable for use as a public weighbridge
  • pay the required fees.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

Public weighbridges are required to be verified every 12 months. Verification certificates are to be issued by a Servicing Licensee.
