Description

You will require this recognition if you intend to practice as a specialist medical practitioner who is able to authorise the use of more specialised items on the Medicare benefits schedule for treatment of a patient. Treatments on the Medicare benefits schedule are subsidised if they are requested by a recognised practitioner.

Eligibility requirements

To meet the criteria of a recognised specialist you must provide evidence that you:

  • are based predominantly in Australia
  • are a fellow of an organisation of a speciality that is recognised by the Agency
  • have obtained a relevant qualification from a relevant organisation after successful completion of an appropriate course of study.
