You may be required to comply with this standard if you operate a ship registered in Australia, or any ship in the territorial sea of Australia.

The master of a ship must ensure that there is a copy of Survival at Sea at or near the cabin berth of each crew member. Each member of a ship's crew must be familiar with its contents.

During emergency drills, every person in charge of a survival craft must instruct and examine each person assigned to the craft in accordance with the Survival at Sea Manual.
