Temporary Community Broadcasting Licences (TCBL) - Australian Government

Description

You will require this licence if you intend to gain experience in community broadcasting by operating a temporary community service with the possible intent of applying for a full community broadcasting licence.

Broadcasting services provide programs that:

  • are intended to appeal to the general public (e.g. entertainment, sports, news, etc)
  • can be received using commonly available equipment (e.g. televisions and radios).

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

  • be a company that is formed in Australia or in an external territory
  • satisfy the Agency that your entity is a suitable applicant and does not pose a risk of committing an offence under the Act, civil penalties or licence breaches
  • satisfy the Agency that it is not undesirable for the Commonwealth, State, Territory or a political party to be in control of a temporary community broadcasting licence.

Duration

Temporary licences may be allocated for a period of up to 12 months and cannot be renewed. If you wish to continue broadcasting under a temporary licence you must apply for a new temporary licence before the existing one expires.
