You will need this licence if you want to carry out export operations in relation to a kind of regulated waste material. Regulated waste material includes:

  • glass
  • plastic
  • tyres
  • paper and cardboard
  • regulated hazardous waste.

Currently, exporters do not have to pay either:

  • for assessment of a waste export licence
  • to make an export declaration through the Waste Export Licensing and Declaration portal.

From 1 July 2023 exporters will pay for assessment of an application for a waste export licence.
