You will need this registration if you own a property that runs livestock including sheep, cattle, goats or pigs. Once registered you will be allocated a permanent property identification code (PIC).
A PIC is an eight letter code which defines your property spatially and forms the basis of Australia's food safety and traceability programs. PIC's are assigned to properties where stock is either held, sold or sent for sale or slaughter.
A PIC helps identify and trace stock movements, and assists in the identification of properties that may be potentially affected during an animal disease emergency.
You will need a property identifier code if you are:
- the owner or occupier of a holding
- an owner or person in charge of a saleyard or abattoir
- a stock and station agent
- an occupier or manager of an area of public land.
