You may require this code if you intend apply for a refrigerant air-conditioning (RAC) industry permit.

A RAC industry permit means any of the following:

  • Refrigerant handling licence
  • Refrigerant trading authorisation
  • RAC equipment manufacturing authorisation
  • Halon special permit
  • Restricted refrigerant trading authorisation.

To be eligible for a permit you must demonstrate your knowledge of any standard relevant to work to be carried out under your permit. You must carry out any work under a permit in accordance with the relevant standard.

This standard sets out requirements and recommendations for the storage and handling of gases in cylinders, as classified as Class 2 dangerous goods in the Dangerous Goods Code. It applies to stores where individual gases (other than those which are covered by specific Australian Standards) are kept, and to stores where more than one type of gas is kept.
