International Code of Botanical Nomenclature - Australian Government

Description

You will be required to comply with this Code if you intend to apply for a certificate of plant breeder's rights. A certificate provides exclusive commercial rights over a new plant variety. Any name (including a synonym) you choose for your new plant variety must comply with this Code, and with any subsidiary codes.

This Code aims to provide a stable method of naming taxonomic groups, avoiding and rejecting the use of names which may cause error or ambiguity or throw science into confusion.

Please consult the Contact Officer for more information and to ascertain the level of compliance that may be required.
