Registration as a Broker to Export Controlled Goods and Technologies - Australian Government

Description

You will require this registration if you intend to register as a broker in order to arrange for another person to supply goods or technology listed in the Defence and Strategic Goods or Technology List (DSGL). Brokering is when a person or organisation acts as an agent or intermediary in arranging the supply of DSGL goods, software and technology between two places located outside of Australia. For the activity to be considered brokering, you must receive money or a non-cash benefit or advance their political, religious or ideological cause for arranging the supply.

Controlled goods include items such as:

  • ammunition
  • firearms
  • propellants and constituent chemicals for propellants
  • military ground vehicles
  • production equipment for rockets and missiles.

Once you are registered as a broker, you will need to fill out the seperate application for a permit to export controlled goods and technologies.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for this registration you must:

  • complete the current application form
  • submit any additional supporting documentation
  • complete a National Police Check
  • provide a valid DECS Client Registration Number
  • satisfy the Agency that you have not been declared bankrupt or insolvent
  • satisfy the Agency that you have not been convicted of an offence in the past ten years
  • satisfy the Agency you or the body corporate has not been suspended or disqualified from holding any licence, registration, certificate or membership in any profession, business, trade or industry
  • satisfy the Agency that there is no risk the DSGL technology or the goods may go to a country where it may be used in a way contrary to Australia?s international obligations or commitments; which may be used to commit human rights abuses or be used in conflicts adverse to Australia's interests.
