Salvage Convention - Australian Government

Description

You will be required to comply with this convention if you intend to undertake salvage operations in Australian waters. A salvage operation is any act or activity undertaken to assist a vessel or other property in danger at sea.

Certain parts of the Salvage Convention (Articles 6 to 8, 12 to 19, 21 to 23, 26 and 30) have the force of law in Australia. The salvage convention includes obligations to carry out the operations with due care, and to minimise damage to the environment. It also has rules about payment and rewards for salvage operations and other legal requirements.
