Approval for Corrosion Protection Systems (CPS) - New South Wales

Description

You will need approval if you intend to use a corrosion protection system. A corrosion protection system (CPS) is a system which applies an electrical current to a metallic (primary) structure to protect the structure from corrosion caused by its contact with soil or water and includes:

  • cathodic protection systems
  • drainage bonds
  • boosted drainage bonds
  • cross bonds.

You will be required to use a corrosion protection system if you own an underground structure that needs protection from stray current, for example, electricity networks, railways, gas companies, petrol storage tanks, and ports.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this approval you must:

  • provide any additional information that may be required
  • provide either a declaration that there are no foreign structures in the vicinity of the system concerned, or a declaration identifying all foreign structures that appear to be in the vicinity of the system concerned and declaring that each owner of a foreign structure identified in the declaration was given an opportunity to object to the operation of the system and no such objection was made.
