Biodiversity Conservation Licence (Animal Dealer) - New South Wales

Description

You will require this licence if you intend to buy, sell and trade in live native animals. This licence will allow you to deal live reptiles or birds:

  • Commercial Trade Licence for Reptiles

The application to trade reptiles includes a written knowledge test to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the regulatory framework for keeping and trading in native animals and the reptiles permitted to be traded under an animal dealer's licence, and their husbandry requirements. Prior granting a licence, officers of the Wildlife Team will inspect the premises at which you intend to commercially trade native reptiles.

  • Commercial Trade Licence for Birds

To apply you will need to contact the Office of Environment and Heritage for an application form to complete.

Ongoing Eligibility Requirements

You will be required to declare that you will comply with the conditions of your licence and other relevant statutory provisions, such as Animal Welfare Code of Practice ? Animals in Pet Shops and NSW Animal Welfare Code of Practice ? Keeping and Trading of Birds.

Duration

Animal dealer (live reptile) licence is for a maximum period of three years. Animal dealer (live bird) licence is for a maximum period of one year.

Approval time

It will take at least six weeks to fully assess your reptile dealer licence application. This time frame is dependent on the applicant satisfactorily completing the application form, written test and having their premises at a standard suitable for trade.
