Accreditation as a Biosecurity Certifier - New South Wales

Description

You will need this accreditation if you intend to act as a Biosecurity Certifier. An accredited Biosecurity Certifier may issue a biosecurity certificate to an individual or organisation. A biosecurity certificate is evidence that a product is free from potential biosecurity risks such as pests, disease, weeds, or other contaminants.

An accredited Biosecurity Certifier may certify that a biosecurity matter:

  • is free from a specified pest or disease or contaminant
  • is in a specified condition
  • is from an area that is free from a pest or disease
  • has been the subject of a specified treatment
  • meets specified requirements
  • complies with any matter prescribed by the regulations.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this accreditation, you must:

  • possess the skills, knowledge and experience required by the appropriate accreditation policy
  • satisfy the Accreditation Authority that you are a suitable person to be accredited.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

As an accredited Biosecurity Certifier, you must ensure that a critical non-compliance event does not occur. A critical non-compliance event is one of the following:

  • a Biosecurity Certificate issued by you is incorrect in a material particular
  • interference with a trap or other monitoring device in contravention of your accreditation
  • refusal to participate or assist in the auditing process.

Duration

The applicant can select either a 1-year or 5-year term of accreditation.

Approval time

Applicants will be notified of the Accreditation Authority's decision within 60 days.

Disqualified persons or entities

You may not be eligible for this accreditation if you:

  • have made a false statement or provided false or misleading documentation in the application process for any licence or authorisation under the Biosecurity Act
  • have previously been accredited as a biosecurity certifier but have since had your accreditation cancelled
  • have been convicted of an offence under the Biosecurity Act or any other law
  • have a history of non-compliance with the Biosecurity Act or Regulations.
