Accreditation as a Biosecurity Certifier - New South Wales

Description

You will require this accreditation if you intend to issue biosecurity certificates in NSW. Biosecurity certifiers can issue biosecurity certificates to individuals and organisations in NSW. Biosecurity certificates ensure that:

  • an area or thing is free from biosecurity matter, or contains a specified level of, any stated biosecurity matter (such as a specified pest, disease or contaminant)
  • biosecurity matter or any other things in a specified condition
  • biosecurity matter has been treated in a specified matter
  • biosecurity matter meets any other specified requirements.

Compliance with this accreditation system ensures that biosecurity certificates are issued in accordance with the Biosecurity Act and Regulations.

Your accreditation will be subject to specific limitations and conditions.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this accreditation, you must:

  • possess the skills, knowledge and experience required by the appropriate accreditation policy
  • satisfy the Accreditation Authority that you are a suitable person to be accredited.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

As an accredited Biosecurity Certifier, you must ensure that a critical non-compliance event does not occur. A critical non-compliance event is one of the following:

  • a Biosecurity Certificate issued by you is incorrect in a material particular
  • you interference with a trap or other monitoring device in contravention of your accreditation
  • you refuse to participate or assist in the auditing process.

Duration

The applicant can select either a 1-year or 5-year term of accreditation.

Your accreditation may be subject to conditions or limitations and you may be required to produce additional documentation before granting accreditation. Once you are accredited, you may apply for a variation of your accreditation.

Disqualified persons or entities

You may not be eligible for this accreditation if you:

  • have made a false statement or provided false or misleading documentation in the application process for any licence or authorisation under the Biosecurity Act
  • have previously been accredited as a biosecurity certifier but have since had your accreditation cancelled
  • have been convicted of an offence under the Biosecurity Act or any other law
  • have a history of non-compliance with the Biosecurity Act or Regulations.
