Accreditation of Building Certifiers - New South Wales

Description

You will need this accreditation if you intend to act as a private certifier and issue compliance, construction, occupation or complying development certificates. The type of work this accreditation will allow you to carry out includes:

  • building surveying and inspection
  • subdivision and strata certification
  • acoustic compliance certification
  • hydraulic compliance certification
  • engineering compliance certification
  • stormwater management facilities compliance certification
  • private road and drainage compliance certification
  • swimming pool certification.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

If you intend to be an accredited building certifier, you must:

  • demonstrate you have the knowledge, skills, qualifications and experience required under the accreditation scheme
  • demonstrate you are a fit and proper person
  • provide a certificate of currency for your professional indemnity insurance.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

Once you are accredited, you are required to comply with the Code of Conduct in Schedule 4 of the Building Professionals Board Accreditation Scheme.

You must also ensure that you undergo continuing professional development.
