Ammunition Permits - New South Wales

Description

You will need one of the following permits if you intend to obtain ammunition for firearms:

  • An ammunition permit is for employees or business partners who have to purchase ammunition for firearms registered to their employer or business partner.
  • An ammunition collection permit is for those intending to buy or possess ammunition for the purpose of ammunition collection only.
  • An ammunition purchase and sell permit is for those intending to possess, acquire or supply ammunition.

Ammunition includes any:

  • article consisting of a cartridge case fitted with a primer and a projectile
  • article consisting of a cartridge case fitted with a primer and containing a propelling charge and a projectile
  • blank cartridges, air gun pellets, training cartridges or gas cartridges.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible to apply for a permit you must:

  • provide proof of identity (if no other NSW firearms licence or permit is held or has been held)
  • submit the application form with the requirement documentation
  • submit a business declaration form
  • submit a legitimate reason form with the required documentation
  • pay any required fees.

If you have never held a firearms licence or permit in NSW, or you do not currently hold an equivalent issued firearms licence or permit interstate, you are required to complete a firearms safety training course and provide evidence of this with your application. Further eligibility criteria will vary depending on the type of permit you are applying for. Please see the attached documents for detailed information.

Duration

The term of the permit will not exceed 5 years.
