You will need this licence if you intend to supply animals (other than exempt animals) for use in research and teaching. The term "supply" encompasses obtaining, breeding, nurturing, keeping and transporting animals for the purpose of them being supplied for use in connection with animal research.
A licence is not needed to supply exempt animals, including:
- livestock (sheep, cattle, pigs, poultry, horses and goats)
- animals that are in the wild
- animals that fit the criteria described in the regulation.
A licence is needed for the breeding and supply of all other animals.
