Appointment as a Performance Based Standards Assessor - New South Wales

Description

You will need to be appointed a performance based standards (PBS) assessor before you can assess PBS vehicle designs or submit them for approval by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.

The PBS scheme is designed for heavy vehicles with mass limits, dimensions or design requirements that exceed the standards and regulations prescribed under the Heavy Vehicle National Law.

PBS assessors:

  • assess vehicle designs against the PBS Standards
  • provide advice on the feasibility of proposed PBS vehicle designs
  • issue a signed certificate confirming their opinion as to whether one or more of the PBS Standards are, or are likely to be, met
  • submit PBS design approval applications to the NHVR (Primary Assessors).

Eligibility requirements

Applicants will need to meet various suitability requirements including qualifications and experience, eligibility and insurance considerations.

Criteria that assessors must satisfy include:

  • carrying at least $10 million public liability insurance and $5 million professional liability insurance
  • holding an engineering qualification acceptable for professional membership of Engineers Australia (IEAust)
  • having significant knowledge of the dynamic performance of heavy vehicles and a minimum of 3 years' experience in the use of PBS vehicle performance simulation software.
