Appointment as a Performance Based Standards Certifier - New South Wales

Description

You will need to be appointed as a Performance Based Standards (PBS) certifier if you intend to inspect heavy vehicles to ensure that they meet design approval and apply to the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator for vehicle approval.

The PBS scheme is designed for heavy vehicles with mass limits, dimensions or design requirements that exceed the standards and regulations prescribed under the Heavy Vehicle National Law.

Applicants will need to meet various suitability requirements including qualifications and experience, eligibility and insurance considerations.

Criteria that certifiers must satisfy include:

  • carrying at least $10 million public liability insurance and $5 million professional liability insurance
  • holding a recognised mechanical engineering trade or engineering qualifications eligible for associate membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia.
  • having 5 years of recent practical experience relevant to heavy vehicle design, inspection, maintenance, or modification, or 3 years if eligible for professional membership of the institution of engineers.
