You will require this accreditation if you intend to examine mentally-ill patients for detention in a declared mental health facility. A declared mental health facility is a facility authorised under the Act to admit involuntary patients.
A person may only be detained in a declared mental health facility in limited circumstances, including:
- on a mental health certificate given by a medical practitioner or accredited person
- after an order for an examination and an examination or observation by a medical practitioner or accredited person.
Accredited persons are usually highly qualified senior mental health practitioners, with at least 5 years of experience. Please consult the Contact Officer for more information.
