You will require this approval if you intend to divert domestic greywater.
Domestic greywater diversion means the installation and operation of a system for diverting greywater generated on residential premises to a garden or lawn on those premises.
Greywater is waste water from washing machines, the laundry, showers, hand basins, and baths, but does not include waste water from a kitchen, toilet, urinal or bidet.
Please note that you can install a domestic greywater diversion system without prior approval if:
- It is carried out in accordance with the Plumbing Code of Australia;
- A sewage management facility is not installed on the premises concerned; and
- The relevant performance standards are met.
Plumbing and drainage work can only be carried out in NSW by individuals that hold the relevant professional licences.
Please consult the Contact Officer for more information.
