Approval of Automotive Technology Trial - New South Wales

Description

You will need this approval to trial automotive technology on state owned roads. Automotive technology includes any technology related to the advancement in design or construction of motor vehicles and includes technology related to highly or fully automated vehicles.

The purpose of this approval is to enable the trial of vehicles on roads in circumstances that would not otherwise be permissible because the vehicle may not have a human driver some or all of the time.

You application must be made directly to the Smart Innovation Centre.

Once initial contact has been made the Smart Innovation Centre will consult with you to discuss the specifics of the proposed trial. This will include the scope of the trial, technology to be tested, legal requirements, and information that is required to demonstrate compliance with the automated vehicle testing guidelines.

After assessment the smart innovation centre will make a recommendation to the Minster who will then determine whether the application will be successful. The final decision will be published on the NSW Legislation website.
