Aquifer Interference Approval - New South Wales

Description

You will need this approval if you intend to undertake works which may impact on an aquifer. An aquifer is a geological structure or formation, or an artificial landfill, that is permeated with water, or is capable of being permeated with water.

Approval authorises you to carry out one or more of the following activities at a specified location or in a specified area:

  • the penetration of an aquifer
  • interference with water in an aquifer
  • obstruction of the flow of water in an aquifer
  • taking of water from an aquifer in the course of carrying out mining, or extraction of sand or road base material.

Aquifer interference approval may be needed for mining operations, road construction and any other large scale activity that involves excavation. You may also require a water licence for your aquifer interference activity.
