You need this authorisation if you intend to inspect and test registered vehicles (including heavy vehicles) for safety and compliance at an authorised inspection station (AIS).
This authorisation allows you to inspect vehicles to ensure they meet minimum safety standards under the AIS. Inspections are carried out for a number of reasons, the most common being for establishment, annual renewal or transfer of registration.
There are four types of vehicle inspection stations under the AIS:
- ASCIS: Authorised Safety Check Inspection Station (light vehicles)
- AUVIS: Authorised Unregistered Vehicle Inspection Station (unregistered light vehicles)
- HVAIS: Heavy Vehicle Authorised Inspection Station (heavy vehicles)
- ACIS: Authorised Crane Inspection Station (SP2 cranes).
An inspection authority must be obtained for each type of station. This ensures that you are qualified and that safety requirements are met.
Please be aware that this licence also authorises you as an approved vehicle examiner under the Heavy Vehicle National Law and allows you to approve modifications under the conditions prescribed by the Heavy Vehicle National Law.
