You will need this authorisation if you intend to inspect and test registered vehicles (including heavy vehicles) for safety and compliance at an authorised inspection station (AIS).
This authorisation permits you to inspect vehicles to ensure they are suitable for safe use and that the minimum safety standards under the AIS are met. In most cases, these vehicles are inspected for establishment, renewal or transfer of registration.
There are four types of vehicle inspection stations under the AIS:
- ASCIS: Authorised Safety Check Inspection Station (light vehicles)
- AUVIS: Authorised Unregistered Vehicle Inspection Station (unregistered light vehicles)
- HVAIS: Heavy Vehicle Authorised Inspection Station (heavy vehicles)
- ACIS: Authorised Crane Inspection Station (SP2 cranes).
An inspection authority must be obtained for each type of station. This ensures that you are qualified and specific that safety requirements are met.
Please be aware that this licence also authorises you as an approved vehicle examiner under the Heavy Vehicle National Law and allows you to approve modifications under the conditions prescribed by the Heavy Vehicle National Law.
