You will need this appointment if you intend to use a premises to carry out tests or inspections of registered vehicles. This includes conducting roadworthy inspections, identity and design checks and clearing defect notices on vehicles in accordance with the authorised inspection station (AIS) standards.
There are four types of vehicle inspection stations under AIS:
- ASCIS: Authorised Safety Check Inspection Station (light vehicles)
- AUVIS: Authorised Unregistered Vehicle Inspection Station (unregistered light vehicles)
- HVAIS: Heavy Vehicle Authorised Inspection Station (heavy vehicles)
- ACIS: Authorised Crane Inspection Station (SP2 cranes).
Each examiner working at your premises will require a separate authorisation.
