You will need this authority to raise more than $15,000 in a financial year for a charitable purpose.
A charitable purpose is a broad term that can change depending on perceptions of social needs and attitudes. Charitable purposes can be grouped under the following broad headings:
- relief of financial hardship
- the advancement of education
- the advancement of religion
- other charitable purposes beneficial to the community.
Fundraising may take a variety of forms and includes: donations, sponsorship, telethons, lotteries and competitions, supply of food, supply of entertainment, supply of other goods or services, in connection with any commercial undertaking.
Please note that if you are registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission (ACNC) and have notified them of your intention to fundraise in NSW, you can automatically operate in NSW under a 'deemed authority'.
