Authority to Prescribe a Schedule 8 Drug (Drug of Addiction) - NSW - Australian Business Licence and Information Service

Description

You will need this authorisation if you intend to prescribe a drug of addiction to a patient under specified circumstances in NSW.

A drug of addiction is any substance that is classified a Schedule 8 substance in the NSW Poisons List. The NSW Ministry of Health may authorise medical practitioners to prescribe drugs of addiction, including opioid medications for chronic pain management.

The processing time is dependent on all necessary information being available to the NSW Ministry of Health.

Approval time

Eligible applications for Authority to Prescribe an Unregistered or (Pharmacy) Extemporaneously - Compounded Schedule 8 Product are generally processed within 30 business days. Eligible applications to Prescribe and Supply Schedule 8 Cannabis Medicine for Human Therapeutic Use are generally processed within 2 business days. All other eligible applications are generally processed within 7 business days.
