Class 1 Security Licence - New South Wales

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to work in the security industry and carry out class 1 security activities.

There are six class 1 licence subclasses:

  • class 1A: patrolling, protecting or guarding any property while unarmed, or acting as a crowd controller
  • class 1B: acting as a bodyguard
  • class 1C: patrolling, protecting or guard cash-in transit
  • class 1D: patrolling, protecting or guarding any property with a dog
  • class 1E: carrying on monitoring centre operations
  • class 1F: patrolling, protecting or guarding a property while armed.

Please be aware that you can apply for more than one type of subclass to be endorsed on your class 1 licence.

All holders of security operative licences must be employed by a Master licensee or hold a Master licence of their own.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

  • be at least 18 years old
  • be a fit and proper person to hold the class of licence sought
  • have the relevant competencies and experience required
  • have successfully completed training and assessment approved by the commissioner
  • be competent to carry on the security activity to which the proposed licence relates
  • be an Australian / New Zealand citizen or permanent Australian resident or hold a visa that entitles you to work in Australia (other than a student or working holiday visa)
  • hold a driver's licence, photo card or customer number.

Please be aware that if you are not an Australian / New Zealand citizen or permanent Australian resident, you will need to provide a police certificate from each country you have lived in for 12 months or more over the previous 10 years since turning 16. Each certificate will need to be translated into English (if necessary) and verified by the relevant country's embassy / consulate in Australia.

Duration

Licences may be issued for 1 or 5 year periods.
