Class 2 Security Licence - New South Wales

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to work in the security industry in NSW and carry out class 2 (technical, investigatory, sales and training) security activities.

Class 2 security activities include:

  • selling security principles or acting as a security consultant (class 2A)
  • selling security equipment or the services of persons to carry on security activities (class 2B)
  • selling, installing, maintaining, repairing or servicing security equipment, or acting as a locksmith (class 2C)
  • providing training, instruction or assessment in relation to any security activity (class 2D)
  • carrying out investigation and/or surveillance activities (class 2E).

Please be aware that you can apply for more than one type of subclass to be endorsed on your Class 2 licence.

All holders of operative licences must be employed by a Master Licensee or hold a Master licence of their own.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

  • be 18 years of age or over
  • be a fit and proper person to hold the class of licence sought
  • have the relevant competencies and experience required
  • have successfully completed any required training and assessment
  • be competent to carry on the security activity to which the proposed licence relates
  • be an Australian / New Zealand citizen or permanent Australian resident or hold a visa that entitles you to work in Australia (other than a student or working holiday visa)
  • provide a National Police Certificate
  • hold a driver licence, photo card or customer number.

Please be aware that If you are not an Australian / New Zealand citizen or permanent Australian resident, you will need to provide a police certificate from each country you have lived in for 12 months or more over the previous 10 years since turning 16. Each certificate will need to be translated into English (if necessary) and verified by the relevant country's embassy / consulate in Australia.

If you intend to apply for a 2A and / or 2D licence subclass, you are required to provide specific training and documentation in support of your application.

Approval time

An application for a Class 2 security operative licence will take a minimum of 8 weeks to be finalised.
